Old Box-Type Monitors FTL
Oww, my freakin’ eyes.
That’s a pretty good summation of my experience of connecting my beloved EeePC to my very old 17” CRT. The blur, the pain, the fat pixels. Ugh, my EeePC’s screen is so pristine in comparison.
One has to wonder how we survived using computers before the advent of LCDs. I certainly won’t be using my CRT again; that was god-awful to use. And it was only plugged in for less than a minute.
And my eyes are still recovering from the pain… so ouch!
Drunken Stupor
I feel so awful today. It’s been a long time since I’ve been drunk before. And last night, I went way over my limit. Like if the sky was the limit, I’d be at Jupiter.
Was Diane’s birthday party yesterday, which was a lot of fun. We had a surprise dinner for her at the Aberdeen Steak House, and embarrassed her with a poor rendition of the happy birthday song, as is customary :)
Then after dinner, we went to Guy’s house for Sing Star, which was a lot of fun. And it was surprising to see who were best at it, not at all the people I’d have expected. Me and my almost non-existent singing voice didn’t do at all well!
Unfortunately, my night finished with a couple sessions bent over the old ceramic bowl. And now the aftermath of all that wine is taking its toll. I really shouldn’t drink wine—it’s the worst possible alcoholic drink I could probably consume.
But all-in-all, it was a great night. Just an awful morning… :p
Where Are Those Packets?
For those that don’t know, I started an operating system project, that culminated in what’s now Snowflake. It’s a small hobby that sometimes keeps me busy, and other times falls by the wayside.
It used to be a lot more fun when Taras hacked on it alongside me—we were a great programming team.
Nowadays, Taras spends most of his time working under the hood of the Mozilla codebase, writing crazy code analysis and transformation tools to improve Firefox.
But it’d be nice to have Taras back. He’d definitely be an immense help with my TCP woes. I’m struggling to find out where stuff is dying, and I’m pretty certain it’s in my TCP code.
Given my network stack still replies to ARP requests after the TCP stream I’m trying to read dies kinda rules out a major problem in either the network stack or the realtek nic driver. Which leaves me with my poorly implemented TCP code—it’s so yuck.
Still, I’m happy that the problem seems to be there and not at a lower level. That’d probably be worse. Well, I assume that’s where it is, it is networking code after all…
